A manhunt has been launched for some police officers in Uganda who are accused of shooting a three-year-old girl.

The young girl’s mother and another man in the central Mityana district on Monday were brutalized by the Four Flying Squad officers who are now on the run.

Investigators are yet to find the motive behind the brutality and shooting.

In a statement the police apologized for the incident saying “The Uganda Police Force has received reports that persons suspected to be officers of the Flying Squad allegedly shot dead three-year-old Viola Nakuwuka and injured her mother”.

The police wants to treat the incident as a serious murder case.

The President of Uganda, Yoweri Museveni this week asked the Inspector General of Police in Uganda to clean the police force of criminal elements after a senior police officer was murder alongside two other police officers.

Mr. Museveni suspects such criminal elements are bringing the name of the Police force into disrepute and lowering the confidence the citizens have in the service.
