Mali’s Keita names cabinet ahead of elections next year

The president of Mali Ibrahim Boubacar Keita on Tuesday named a new cabinet ahead of elections next year.

Mr. Keita who is seeking re-election appointed a cabinet dominated by allies.The new government has 10 new ministers and 25 previous cabinet ministers.

Mr. Keita’s nomination over the weekend named one of his loyalists, Adboulaye Idrissa Maiga, as prime minister.

The new cabinet also has a former defence minister and close Keita ally,Tieman Hubert Coulibaly given the post of minister of territorial administration.

Coulibaly has been the task of organising next year’s presidential and parliamentary elections.

Mali’s ambassador to the United States, Tiena Coulibaly is now the new defence minister.

Mali’s government is getting support from the UN and France to fight militant attacks in the north of the country.
