Ghanaian appointed Senior Vice President of AfDB

Fred Dzakpata is a Ghanaian journalist who specializes in business reporting in Africa.

A Ghanaian, Charles Owusu Boamah has been appointed the Senior Vice President of the African Development Bank (AfDB).

Mr. Boamah has worked with the Bank for 25 years, and before his appointment was the Vice President for Finance. He replaces Dr. Frannie Leautier who resigned from the Bank “for personal family reasons”.

Mr. Boamah also served as Vice President of Finance, Acting Vice-President and Director of Finance at the bank. He also served as a Controller and Director of Financial Control Department.

Before joining the AfDB in 1991 Mr Boamah worked for 11 years with the First Interstate Bank (merged with Wells Fargo Bank), where he started as a Senior Financial Analyst and subsequently served as Vice President and Manager of Accounting Policy and Research.

Before then he worked for over five years with the Price water house Coopers (then Coopers & Lybrand) in Accra and Los Angeles, where he started as a staff accountant and was promoted to a supervisor.

He also worked as a Governor at the Eastern and Southern African Trade and Development Bank and as a Director of the African Export-Import Bank.

Mr. Boamah is a graduate of the University of Ghana, Legon where he obtained his BSc in Business Administration, Accounting Major from 1975 to 1978 and he holds an MBA from the University of California, Los Angeles, The Anderson School of Management where he studied from 1980 to 1982.
