Nigerians residing in a Ghanaian community of Sowutuom are reportedly fleeing the community over fears of being attacked by Ghanaians, according to officials of the Nigerian community living in Ghana.

The locals in the Ghanaian town are reported to be angry at the stabbing to death of a local resident by a Nigerian last Thursday.

Police in Ghana have arrested the Nigerian man who allegedly stabbed the Ghanaian man to death as they continue with investigations into the incident.

Local media reports that the Nigerian suspect Thompson Peter reportedly committed the crime act in self defence after accusing the victim of stealing his mobile phone.

The incident has sparked xenophobic attacks against Nigerians living in Ghana with many of them fleeing the community.
