The planned date for the re-run of Kenya’s presidential election could be affected after the company providing the voting system for the poll announced on Monday that its system and equipment will not be ready in time.

The Supreme Court ordered the re-run of the election initially won by incumbent president Uhuru Kenyatta citing irregularities during the elections and failure to comply with the constitution.

The electoral commission of Kenya day after the ruling announced that it will organize the re-run poll on October 17, but with the company providing the voting system now stating that it would not be able to put its system in place on time, it appears the planned date for the election could be affected.

The French firm OT-Morpho said the “significant amount of work” need to be done cannot be finished in time for the October 17 election.

Reuters News Agency obtained a letter from the company to the electoral commission indicating that the two different electronic systems used in the vote would have to be reinstalled for a re-run.
