The electoral commission of Kenya on Thursday announced a change in the date for repeat presidential election after the country’s Supreme Court gave full judgment on Wednesday following the nullification of President Kenyatta’s electoral victory in August.

The commission initially announced that the repeat election will take place on October 17 but has now moved it to October 26, 2017.

The commission has already stated that only two candidates will take part in the fresh elections; Nasa leader Raila Odinga and Jubilee’s Uhuru Kenyatta. Both men with their running mates are those that will participate in the elections.

In a statement on Thursday the election commission of Kenya said the decision to push the elections to October 26 was informed by the judgment of the Supreme Court.

The statement further said that details of preparations for the elections will be made on Friday.

The company providing the voting system for the poll announced on Monday that its system and equipment will not be ready in time.

The French firm OT-Morpho said the “significant amount of work” need to be done cannot be finished in time for the October 17 election.
