Millions of customers of Kenya’s leading mobile network operator, Safaricom had challenges making calls on Monday after the network suffered a breakdown.

Besides subscribers not able to make calls, they could not browse on Safaricom’s network or to send money via M-Pesa.

The company on its Twitter account apologized for the network breakdown saying “Sorry we are having a slight technical fault with the network services countywide but the issue is being resolved.”

Safaricom chief executive, Bob Collymore in a video posted on the company’s website announced that the source of the technical challenges has been identified.

Safaricom has 27.7 million subscribers, that is 80.6 per cent of the market share.
