Buhari’s key ally joins opposition party, bids for presidency

A major ally of the President of Nigeria, Atiku Abubakar has announced his decision to join the opposition political party, the People’s Democratic Party (PDP).

Atiku Abubakar, a former vice president of Nigeria quit the ruling All Progressive Congress (APC) in November and re-joined a party he left four years ago.

Abubakar’s decision to quit the APC has signaled his intention to bid for the presidency and possibly challenge his former friend, President Muhammadu Buhari.

One of Abubakar’s spokesperson said his boss is ready to run for president in the 2019 presidential election.

In a statement on Sunday the former vice president said in a statement that the ruling APC has let down Nigerians since it has not been able to create a vibrant economy that creates jobs for the youth.
