Egyptians living abroad have voted in their country’s presidential elections expected to take place locally between March 26 and 28.

Thousands of Egyptians abroad between Friday and Sunday took part in the electoral process without any major challenges.

Egypt’s head of election commission, Lasheen Ibrahim said the turnout appeared to be “good,” although he did not explain what that meant.

Ibrahim told journalists that his commission had not received any complaints from polling stations abroad of voting anomalies and that the voting process went smoothly.

Egypt’s President Abdel-Fattah al-Sisi is being challenged by only one candidate in the person of Moussa Mustafa Moussa.

Many analysts say al-Sisi is set to win the polls after real contenders were arrested or harassed to drop out of the race.
