Gambia Cabinet ministers sworn-in

The new government in The Gambia is gradually taking shape with the swearing in of 10 cabinet ministers by the country’s President, Adama Barrow on Wednesday in the capital Banjul.

The cabinet ministerial team included some political prisoners under the former leader, Yahya Jammeh.

Ousainou Darboe, Foreign Affairs minister, Omar Jallow, Agriculture minister, Dr. Isatou Touray, Trade minister and  Amadou Sanneh, Finance and Economic Affairs Minister were released from prison on Monday.

Darboe told the media after the swearing in ceremony that “Gambians have been liberated from the tyranny of Yahya Jammeh and we are ready to serve the country efficiently without bias nor nepotism”.

Halifa Sallah, the spokesperson of the coalition government had said that eleven out of eighteen appointments had been made.

The eleventh appointee, Ba Tambedou who is currently out of the country is expected to take up the post of the Justice Minister and Attorney General.

Below are the ten sworn-in cabinet minister of The Gambia.

  • Ousainou Darboe – Foreign Affairs Minister
  • Hamat Bah – Tourism and Culture Minister
  • Omar Jallow – Agriculture Minister
  • Mai Ahmad Fatty – Interior Minister
  • Henry Gomez – Youth and Sports Minister
  • Lamin M. Dibba – Forestry and Climate Change Minister
  • Dr Isatou Touray – Trade Minister
  • Amadou Sanneh – Finance and Economic Affairs Minister
  • James Gomez – Fisheries, Water Resources and National Assembly Matters Minister
  • Lamin N. Dibba – Lands and Regional Government Minister
