The victim told Citi FM in Accra that she was lured by one of the suspects during a wake-keeping ceremony in a community called Atwima Nwabiagya.
The suspects, according to the teenager held her to the ground, took turns to forcefully have sex with her and threatening to kill her if she speaks about the incident.
“After the incident, they threatened and warned me not to mention it to anyone or they will kill me. I really struggled before reaching home on that day. I could not walk properly because I bled profusely from my private parts” she said.
The girl who has not been able to write her final exams in school also said she feels “pains in my abdomen and my vagina. I have severe headache too and I feel so weak since the incident happen.”
The police have arrested the suspects whose ages range between 17 and 19, and are currently putting them on trial.
Mother of the victim, Patience Opoku was quoted by Citi FM to have said that “When I saw the suspects in court, I felt sad for them. I would have asked for mercy for them, but after they raped my daughter, they came to our house with their relatives and rained insults on us for the reporting the matter to the police.”
“They even damaged the glass window of my brother’s room. So my husband came back and felt our lives were not safe. So I want the law to take its course”, Opoku added.
Ghana in recent times has recorded several rape cases with young girls mostly the victims. A campaign has been launched by a group of gender activists to stop violence against women and girls.
