Ghana’s president, Nana Akufo Addo has revealed that 998 people have been employed as staff at the presidency and have been working under him since he became president in 2017.

The list comprises, 9 ministers of state, 27 presidential staffers and aides, 256 junior political appointees and 706 civil servants on attachment at the presidency.

The president already has 110 ministers working under him at various ministries across the country.

President Akufo Addo submitted the list to the country’s parliament last Friday with the disclosure attracting a lot of criticisms from some Ghanaians who consider it a drain on the public purse.

The Ghanaian president prior to winning the 2016 election criticised the previous president John Mahama who had about 768 staff working under him.

Government communicators have justified the huge numbers and said the president prioritizes delivering on his campaign promise than running a lean government.

Ghana is struggling to undertake critical developmental projects due to lack of funds and recently launched a campaign to raise enough revenue for projects.

Critics of government say the latest huge number of staffers is not the right decision in saving money for the state for other projects.
