Indians have been thrown into a state of shock after 11 members of a family were all found dead. Ten of them were hanging from the ceiling.

Police say the case could be one of “mass suicide linked to spiritual and mystical practices”.

Although police say they have not ruled out murder they say notes were found inside the house.

The notes give a clue of possible suicide for spiritual purpose.

Details of family

The 11 persons who died all come from the Bhatia family. The head of the family, 75-year-old Narayan Devi died alongside her daughter and two sons.

Wives of Devi’s sons and five grandchildren also died.

All of them were found hanging from the ceiling except Narayan Devi who was found lying on the floor dead.

Police say they were found with their hands tied behind their backs. Their eyes and mouths were covered with cloth.

A neighbor of the family told the BBC that “They never had any problems with anyone. We never saw them fighting.”
