The first lady of the United States, Melania Trump has visited a local hospital in Ghana’s capital, Accra as she tours the country.

She arrived in Ghana on Tuesday where she is beginning her visit of Africa from.

Last month Mrs. Trump revealed the African countries she intends visiting, namely Ghana, Malawi, Kenya and Egypt.

In Accra, she was received at the airport by Ghana’s first lady, Rebecca Akufo Addo.

This is the first time Mrs. Trump is visiting Africa and she is doing so without her husband.

Melania Trump is expected to focus on humanitarian work and “development programmes being done in many of the countries”.

Visit to health centre

On Tuesday she visited a local hospital in Accra to witness health care treatment for babies.

She held some of the babies receiving health care from health officers. The US first lady is expected to visit other humanitarian centres in central Ghana.

Mrs. Trump is hoping to improve child welfare, especially when it comes to online behaviour and addiction to opioids.

Little interest from Ghanaians

But there is little reaction from Accra to her visit. Not many are aware of her trip and those who do have little interest in it.

Mrs. Trump has described the four countries she is visiting as “four beautiful and very different” countries. The trip is part of her Be Best campaign.
