Mozambique: Twelve people killed in Militant attack

Police in Mozambique say twelve people have been killed in an attack suspected to have been carried out by militants in northern part of the country.

AFP reports that following the attack thousands of villagers fled the area into neighbouring Tanzania.

The attack took place on Friday but police are now confirming the incident. AFP quotes a police source as saying that “there was an attack in Nangane district, where there are no security patrols.”

The source said “The attackers killed 12 people, mostly women and children” in a village called Chicuaia Velha, not far from Tanzania.

Local media also reports that some were killed when their houses were set on fire. Others were killed with machete.

The attack in the Cabo Delgado province is the third to take place within the past one month.

Delgado continues to witnessed violence. Various armed groups attacking police stations, torching villages and executing religious leaders.
