Daughter of a prominent Yoruba leader, Pa Reuben Fasoranti has been reportedly murdered by herdsmen.
Pa Reuben Fasoranti is the leader of socio-cultural organisation, Afenifere, a group advancing the welfare of the Yoruba people of Nigeria.
Yoruba is one of the prominent tribes in Nigeria.
Local media has reported that Funke Olakunrin, daughter of Pa Reuben Fasoranti was killed by the suspected herdsmen while heading to Ore Junction from Akure, Ondo State.
She was attacked and shot by the herdsmen, according to local reporting.
The spokesman for Afenifere, Mr. Yinka Odumakin was quoted by local news paper The PUNCH on Friday as saying that “We have confirmed the death of Mrs. Funke Olakunrin (58), daughter of our leader, Chief Fasoranti.
Eyewitness accounts say she died of gunshots from Fulani herdsmen who shot her at Ore junction in Ondo State earlier today.”
He adds that Olakunrin “was coming from Akure when the armed Fulani herdsmen came from the bush to attack her and other vehicles.
Her domestic staff in the car with her also sustained gunshots. This is one death too many and a clear we-can-take-it-no-more death.”
Nigeria continues to struggle to deal with the current friction between herdsmen and local Nigerians.
There have been clashes in the past between the herdsmen many of whom are Fulanis and native Nigerians.
My family and I stand shoulder to shoulder with you at this trying time, even as we pray for the repose of Mrs. Funke Olakunrin’s soul. Peace must return to Nigeria, by every means possible. Enough of this. Enough of this! -AA

In some instances there have been clashes over lands with reprisal attacks taking place in some communities.
Nigeria’s President Muhammadu Buhari has expressed regret over past killings but his government is unable to reduce the violence.
