Some Ghanaians have expressed anger over the killing of a 90 year old woman for allegedly being a witch.

The deceased Akua Denteh had been accused of being a witch by a fetish priest at Kafaba in the Savannah Region of Ghana.

In a disturbing video the old woman, who could be heard refuting allegations that she is a witch, was pushed down by a mob and beaten mercilessly.

The video captures some women, slapping, whipping and hitting the old woman’s head with a heavy item, with the community members cheering them on.

The Savannah Regional Police Commander, Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCOP) Enoch Adutwum Bediako have deployed some police officers to the area to effect the arrest of some suspects.

DCOP Bediako said the Police received a complaint from son of the deceased Mahama Salami aged 60 that he had received information that his mother had been taken out of her home by a mob for allegedly being a witch.

She was subjected to severe beatings by one Tanko and his accomplices until she became unconscious and died.

An inspection conducted on the body of the victim revealed a cut on the forehead and bruises on the right arm.

The Gender Ministry and some CSOs which have condemned the barbaric act are demanding the prosecution of the perpetrators.

On social media many Ghanaians have expressed anger over the incident.
