Former Nigerian President Muhammadu Buhari has passed away aged 82

News of his passing was confirmed on Sunday afternoon, July 13, 2025, by his former aide, Bashir Ahmad, through a statement posted on X (formerly Twitter).  

The statement, signed by longtime spokesperson Garba Shehu, said Mr. Buhari died at a clinic in London following an undisclosed illness. 

The statement expressed the family’s sorrow and requested prayers for the late president.

Buhari, served as Nigeria’s civilian president from 2015 to 2023 and previously as a military ruler from 1983 to 1985.

He was known for his anti-corruption stance and efforts to reform the economy.
