Covid-19: Federer donates 1 million Swiss Francs to the poor

Tennis star Roger Federer has donated 1m swiss francs to support poor families due to the current coronavirus outbreak.

The 38-year-old whose mother hails from South Africa and his wife Mirka said the donation is for “vulnerable families in Switzerland”.

“Nobody should be left behind,” the 20-time Grand Slam winner wrote on Instagram.

“Our contribution is just a start. We hope that others might join in supporting more families in need. Together we can overcome this crisis! Stay healthy!”

Meanwhile other celebrities like Rihanna through her Clara Lionel Foundation donated $5m to help with medical supplies, equipment and access to food around the world.

Over 400,000 have been infected by Coronavirus with deaths approaching 20,000 and more than 100,000 recovered.
