The 2024 ranking of the world’s most powerful passports has been revealed by Henley & Partners.
The ranking utilizes International Air Transport Association (IATA) data which maintains the world’s largest and most accurate database of travel information.
The list also reflects passport strength through visa-free access to various countries.
Globally Japan and Singapore share the top position with the most powerful passports in the world.
Four European nations namely: Germany, Spain, France and Italy join the two Asian countries in the top five.
But the list is dominated by European countries with at least 27 countries appearing in the top 10 places.
In Africa the Seychelles placed top and ranked 26th globally. It is closely followed by Mauritius, which occupies the 30th position globally.

- Mauritius
- South Africa
- Botswana
- Lesotho and Namibia
- eSwatini
- Kenya and Malawi
- Tanzania
Somalia still occupies the position of having the weakest African passport, in 99th place globally.
The index looks at passports of 199 countries globally and remains the most authoritative passport index with historical data spanning for about fourteen years.
