68 year-old Gambian politician, Fatoumata Jallow-Tambajang’s appointment as vice president of her country could face some challenges.
This is because Gambia’s constitution disqualifies individuals older than 65 years from holding the position.
She was appointed by the Gambia’s new president, Adama Barrow days after his inauguration in Dakar, Senegal.
A BBC reporter in the Gambia, Umaru Fofana reported that Sections of the constitution of the Gambia have an age limit of 65 yrs.

Per this provision, the appointment of Fatoumata could brew controversy in the coming days.
Jallow-Tambajang had served as Minister of Health and Social Welfare under former president Yahya Jammeh who has left the country after being compelled to cede power. She is a former United Nations Development Program staffer.
She was the first to publicly announce that Mr. Jammeh will be prosecuted for crimes committed during his tenure.
Jallow-Tambajang played a vital role in the formation of the coalition that defeated Mr. Jammeh in last year’s presidential elections.
