Nigeria’s President, Muhammadu Buhari has extended his medical leave and has now delayed his return to Nigeria.

A statement from the Nigerian government said the president has asked parliament on Sunday to extend his medical leave.

The statement from Mr. Buhari’s office said “President Muhammadu Buhari has written to the National Assembly today (Sunday), February 5, 2017, informing of his desire to extend his leave in order to complete and receive the results of a series of tests recommended by his doctors”.

President Buhari’s decision to extend his medical leave has heightened speculations that his health status could be worsening.

The Nigerian leader was expected resume his official duties on February 6.
