[Video] Kenyan University closed following students’ riot over ‘love affair’

A university in Kenya, the Maasai Mara University has had its main campus closed indefinitely.

It follows students’ riots over the beating of one of the colleagues suspected of having an affair with the wife of a commercial motorcycle rider.

The according to the Standard Media in Kenya the students staged the protests on Thursday as they decried the assault of their colleague who has been hospitalized.

Scores of students and the commercial motorcycle operators called the ‘boda boda’ operators who beat the student were arrested by Police.

Management of the university in an internal memo said “Following the students’ unrest during which one of them was injured on the night of November 16 outside the campus, senate in its sitting has authorized the indefinite closure of the university with immediate effect.”

All the students are to vacate the university premises immediately although not all campuses will be closed.
