Togo confirms outbreak of H5N1 bird flu

Officials in Togo have confirmed reports of an outbreak of highly pathogenic H5N1 bird flu at a poultry farm in the southern part of the country.

Reuters reported that the Paris-based World Organisation for Animal Health (OIE) on Monday cited a report from the Togolese farm ministry confirming the report.

The virus was detected on poultry farm located in the southern part of the country specifically the Maritime Region.

The farm ministry in the statement said the virus had infected 3,600 birds and killed 152 of them.
