Doctors in Uganda are reported to have embarked on an indefinite strike despite threats by the government to jail them for striking.

The strike is affecting all government facilities, according to the BBC.

The doctors are agitating over poor working conditions including low salaries, lack of medical equipment and arbitrary arrests of doctors accused of engaging in corrupt acts.

The president of Uganda, Yoweri Museveni is reported to have threatened to declare state of emergency and get the striking doctors arrested if they go ahead with their industrial action.

Meanwhile last week two medical unions disassociated themselves from the strike, according to NTV.
