Tanzania: 11 killed in a plane crash

A plane crash in Northern Tanzania has claimed 11 lives.

The EastAfrican reported that the owners of the aircraft confirmed the deaths stating that the Cessna Grand Caravan was carrying 10 passengers and one pilot.

The Coastal Aviation managing director Julian Edmunds is reported to have said that the crash occurred at about 11am local time in Empakaai area as the aircraft was traveling to Serengeti.

“Obviously, we are in shock. This is devastating,” Edmunds said.

The aircraft owners said in a statement on Wednesday that “We are deeply saddened to report that eleven people have died”.

Officials have been unable to confirm the actual cause of the crash.

A search is ongoing at the scene of the accident.
