Ghana gets its version of Silicon Valley

Ghanaian inventors have announced the launch of the country’s own version of the “Silicon Valley” to promote innovation in technology.

The team led by Ghanaian-American fibre optics inventor, Dr. Thomas Mensah is hoping to transform the country’s advancement in technology and attract young people into science and technology.

Ghana-India Kofi Annan Centre of Excellence in ICT (GI-KACE) based in Accra will serve as the main base for the technology hub which is receiving backing from the government.

Dr. Mensah, the founder and chairman of the Silicon Valley of Ghana said the main center, GI-KACE “is packed with the brainpower to support the Silicon Valley of Ghana in bridging the technology gap of the country”.

Ghana’s Silicon Valley is to serves as the link for both the country’s universities and research institutions with industrial corporations, Advanced Research Centres and other “Tech giants”.

Dr. Mensah said the innovation and competency centres will work with industries and academia to create ICT products and services in Ghana.
