Ethiopia’s Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed says he defused a planned attempt by soldiers to kill him last week when they marched to his palace.

The Prime Minister was seen engaging in a press-up session with the soldiers, an act that reportedly defused the said attempt to harm him.

But speaking to parliament on Thursday, the Mr. Ahmed said although he was seen laughing with the soldiers “inside I was very unhappy”.

The soldiers were said to had marched to his office demanding pay rise. Mr. Ahmed said the soldiers were also attempting to abort his reforms.

He said “the situation was brought under control, some forces, were heard saying that ‘he escaped before we could kill him’. So, we should not see the situation lightly”.
