Police in Kenya have arrested two lawmakers on Monday for playing roles in recent deadly clashes between two communities.

The clashes in the Marsabit County led to the death of ten people. It forced police to launch an investigation into the crisis.

Daily Nation reports that the two MPs are suspected of fueling the crisis and now face criminal charges.

A senior police officer George Kinoti told local media that North Horr MP Chachu Ganya and his Saku counterpart Dido Ali Rasso will be sent to court and charged.

The two MPs were among several community leaders questioned last week over the clashes.

There have been attacks and reprisal attacks among the two communities in the past over land issues in Oronderi village.

Police officials expressed worry over the role politicians are playing in funding the “flare-ups and inciting violence in the region.”
