Chad is hosting a crisis summit on the activities of the militant group Boko Haram on Thursday.
The meeting which was convened by Nigeria’s president, Muhammadu Buhari will take place in Chad’s capital N’Djamena.
Participating countries for this crisis summit are Chad, Cameroon, Niger, and the Central African Republic. A statement from the Nigerian presidency said “the President of the Republic of Benin” has also been invited.
The statement said “The objective of the one-day meeting is to review the security situation in areas affected by the Boko Haram insurgency, as well as adopt measures to enhance the capacity of the Multinational Joint Task Force (MNJTF) to secure the region.”
Boko Haram has killed thousands of people from countries within the Lake Chad Basin, displacing millions and creating a humanitarian crisis.

Buhari visits worst hit regions
This week, president Buhari has been visiting some areas of Nigeria worst hit by Boko Haram attacks.
His government has been criticized for failing to deal with the crisis created by the militant group.
Buhari promised to defeat the militants when he was elected President back in 2015. But the militants continue to launch attacks across northern Nigeria.
The Nigerian President was thankful to “officers and men fighting bravely and tirelessly to keep our country safe from terrorism and violence. I salute their sacrifice on our behalf. And may the souls of the fallen rest in peace.”
“I would like to reassure our Military that as their Commander-In-Chief, I will do everything within my power to continue empowering them by providing all the necessary equipment and force multipliers required for them to prevail on the field,” Buhari said.

Boko Haram revising strategy
Boko Haram isn’t only launching attacks killing civilians but security officials as well.
Nigeria’s army leadership on Wednesday said in a statement that “Since 2015; the Nigerian Army in conjunction with sister services and other security agencies have systematically degraded the capabilities and capacity of Boko Haram terrorists and many successes were achieved.
“However, in the last two to three months, we have noticed daring moves by the terrorists, increased use of drones against our defensive positions and infusion of foreign fighters in their ranks. These potent threats require us to continually review our operations”.
