Ghana: Popular restaurant closed down over alleged mass food poisoning

Ghanaian authorities on Thursday closed down a branch of a popular restaurant in Ghana, Marwako following reports of alleged mass food poisoning.

Several Twitter users complained of getting food poisoning after eating at the branch located in East Legon in the capital city Accra.

Many patrons of the food eatery said they have taken ill referencing the food joint as the possible source of their discomfort.

The restaurant has been trending on Twitter following several complains and Ghana’s food and drugs authority has said it has launched investigations into the incident.

In a statement the Ghanaian food and drugs authority said it “has taken notice of complaints from the public about the suspected food poisoning at the East Legon Branch of Marwarko Restaurant. We have closed down the restaurant and together with other relevant agencies, started investigations.”

“We wish to assure the public that the issue would be thoroughly investigated and appropriate actions taken. Additionally, FDA is ensuring the strict implementation of it protocols to prevent any further harm to the public,” the statement concluded.
