Supporters of the ruling party in Kenya, the Jubilee party on Tuesday staged a demonstration accusing the country’s Supreme Court of “stealing their victory” following the court’s ruling weeks ago nullifying the August 8 presidential election results.
That presidential election was won by incumbent president, Uhuru Kenyatta but the courts ruled that the poll was not conducted in accordance with the constitution and was characterized by irregularities.
The Supreme Court ordered fresh poll which is to take place on October 17.
The Jubilee supporters staged their protest outside the Supreme Court building in Nairobi holding placards with inscriptions that accuse the judges of giving a bad judgment.Â
Reuters news agency reports that tear gas was fired at demonstrators many of whom support Uhuru Kenyatta.
The demonstration took place amid announcement that the full Supreme Court judgment will be made public on Wednesday.
A petition has also been filed at the Judicial Service Commission (JSC) seeking the removal of judges Philomena Mwilu (Deputy Chief Justice) and Isaac Lenaola, according to the Daily Nation.
