Suicide bombers attack mosque in Niger, 10 killed

Suicide bombers have attacked a mosque in Niger’s south-eastern city of Diffa, killing ten people.

The victims of the attack, according to officials gathered to break their Ramadan fast on Monday evening.

An army official was quoted as saying that the bombers “exploded their charges during a religious service”. The three bombers were female.

The attackers

Elhadji Koura Boukar, a local councillor, according to AP recounted how the women wearing explosive belts tried to enter the mosque during prayers.

The attackers reportedly came into Niger from Nigeria and the police received an alert about them.

Niger is among other West African countries witnessing series of terrorist attacks especially from Boko Haram militants.

The United States army is assisting Troops from Niger to fight the militant group which has killed hundreds and displaced millions.
