Egyptian officials say seven Coptic Christians have been killed after gunmen opened fire on a bus carrying them.
The attack on Friday happened in central Egypt as the victims headed to a Coptic Christian monastery in upper Egypt.
The Archbishop of Minya province where the incident occurred confirmed the attack to Reuters.
No group has immediately claimed responsibility for the attack.
Coptic Christians continue to suffer such attacks carried out by the Islamic State jihadist group.
The Coptic Christians make up 10% of Egypt’s 96 million people. In recent times they have become a focal point of attacks from militants.
Egyptian security continues to fight with these militants killing hundreds of them over the past year.
In 2017 ISIS killed more than 40 people in twin church bombings in April. A month later almost 30 Christians in the same Minya province were shot dead.
The victims were also heading to a monastery on a bus.
