Kenya’s national census exercise started on Saturday with local media reporting of some minor challenges.
Those challenges related to technology hiccups and apathy from some citizens.
Daily Nation reported that Data transmission hitches and delays in supply of vital tools to enumerators were reported in parts of the country.
These challenges have badly affected the efficiency of the process, according to officials.
This is the sixth national census in independent Kenya. Kenya’s President Uhuru Kenyatta had asked “all Kenyans to come out and be counted. Let’s fulfil what’s required of us”.
Officials have ordered the closure of all entertainment centres in the country at 5pm local time on Saturday and Sunday.
The move according to officials is to ensure that citizens are accessible to undertake the exercise.
Originally the plan was to shut such entertainment venues in just one county, Machakos but now it covers all 47 counties.
The Interior Minister Fred Matiang’i said on Thursday that the all bars must shut at 17:00 local time on Saturday and Sunday.
