South African beauty queen Zozibini Tunzi was on Sunday night crowned the 2019 Miss Universe.

Miss Puerto Rico, Madison Anderson and Miss Mexico, Sofía Aragón were Tunzi’s closest rivals emerging as runner-ups.

Ms Tunzi was able to impress judges and fans through the competition on Sunday night.

Tunzi has been mobilizing support online with a campaign that urged South African men to write love letters to the women.

She told the audiences and judges during question time that leadership is “something that has been lacking in young girls and women for a very long time.

Not because we don’t want to but because of what society has labelled women to be. I think we are the most powerful beings in the world”.

Winning Miss Universe means Tunzi earns a year-long salary for serving duties that comes along with the title.

Zozibini Tunzi took home the title of the 68th Miss Universe, but her life will certainly change over the course of the next one year.

She will be moving to a new city to undertake all her duties.
