The Gambian government is to receive financial support from the European Union (EU) after the said fund meant for the 2015/2016 financial year was frozen.
A sum of €33 million is to be made available to the new government of The Gambia as part of this arrangement.
The EU Ambassador to The Gambia, Attila Lajos told local media that additional funds will be made available to the Adama Barrow administration in the coming years once promises made to the Gambian voters are delivered.

He said “It is a fundamental concern of the European Union to support this democratic process in this country… We are at the start of a completely new chapter of the history of the EU-Gambia relations,”
Mr. Lajos made these comments public after meeting with President Adama Barrow.
Financial support for the Gambian government was withheld over concerns related to human rights abuse and lack of good governance under now exiled Gambian leader the Yahya Jammeh.
President Barrow has promised to reform his country to bring prosperity to citizens.
