Killing of journalists on the increase in Africa

The United Nation’s culture agency Unesco has said in a report that more than 213 journalists were killed in 2015 alone.

That makes 2015 the second worst year for journalists in the last ten years. According to the report in Africa, 16 journalists were killed compared to 11 in 2014.  Many of the journalists died in conflict situations.

There are details in the report on journalists who have been killed and the progress of investigations.

The report is being launched to mark the international day to raise awareness about the dangers facing journalists.

Somalia is among the dangerous places to be a journalist in the world with more than 50 journalists being killed over a period of 13 years.
