Supporters of the two leading political parties for Ghana’s next month’s general elections clashed on Sunday in the capital Accra.

Local media in Accra reports that members of the incumbent National Democratic Congress (NDC) and the biggest opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) engaged in a violent brawl at the premises of the NPP’s flagbearer for the elections Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo.

Local news portal in Ghana, Starrfmonline.com reported that participants of an NDC sponsored health walk alleged that the personal security detail of the NPP’s leader fired multiple shots at the sight of the crowd.

However other local media sources said the NDC supporters during their health walk diverted their route towards the residence of the NPP leader.

Police have begun investigating the incident after intervening to restore calm.
