Gambia’s President Barrow removes the word “Islamic” from the country’s name

The Gambia will no longer be called the Islamic Republic of The Gambia as was named by its former leader, Yahya Jammeh.

The country’s new president, Adama Barrow has removed the word “Islamic” from the official name of the country.

The Gambia will now be officially called The Republic of The Gambia, according to Mr. Barrow at his first Presidential press conference.

At that press conference on Saturday the president said his government will overhaul every aspect of government. He said “The rule of the law that will be the order of the day”

President Barrow, returned to The Gambia from Senegal last week amid wild jubilation from citizens.

He is expected to name his cabinet this week.
