Working days in The Gambia are now five instead of four which used to be the norm under former leader, Yahya Jammeh.

That means Gambians can now work from Monday to Friday and not Monday to Thursday.

A statement from the new president, Adama Barrow however said public sector workers will work half-day on Fridays.

Official working hours are now 08:00 to 16:00 from Monday to Thursday and 08:00 to 12:30 on Friday.

In the past public sector workers worked from 08:00 to 18:00 on Monday to Thursday.

Under the exiled leader, Jammeh, Muslims in the country were to use Friday for religious prayers and other social activities.

Mr. Jammeh had also declared The Gambia an Islamic Republic. President Barrow has now scrapped the word “Islamic” from the official name of the country.
