Ten people are reported to have been killed on Wednesday at Merti a community of pastoralists in Kenya Rift Valley following a cattle raid.

Several other residents in the area also sustained injuries from gunshots. Police said 800 cattle were also stolen in the incident believed to be reprisal.

The East African quoted a police officer as saying that “The attack is believed to be a retaliatory attack and was executed by bandits from a neighbouring community”.

The bandits reportedly carried out the attacks and then made away with hundreds of cattle.

An investigation has begun into the incident with Kenyan officials making efforts to recover the stolen cattle.

Last sunday another set of ten people were killed in a row over grazing between two other communities, the Kom and Isiolo Counties.

Many deaths have been recorded in other communities where cattle grazing often takes place raising tension in those areas.
