Ghana’s President Nana Akufo-Addo has held a rare meeting with his country’s living former Presidents to seek advice on how best to tackle important issues in the West African nation.

Former Presidents, Jerry John Rawlings (1981-2001), John Agyekum Kufuor (2001-2009) and John Dramani Mahama (2013-2017) met the new president who has been in office for 100 days so far in Accra.

A statement from the presidency in Accra said of the meeting that its “purpose  was to seek their views on some governance-enhancing measures his administration intends to take.”

“The meeting, which lasted for two hours, was held in a good atmosphere, one of frank exchanges and mutual respect.”

President Akufo-Addo has stated that he intends holding “further meetings with the three former Presidents in the future.”
