The opposition in Kenya has announced that its supporters will resume regular street protests to push for electoral reforms in the country on Friday.

The National Super Alliance (Nasa), boycotted last month’s re-run presidential poll won by incumbent Uhuru Kenyatta.

The election results are being challenged once more in the Supreme Court, but not by Nasa this time round.

Daily Nation reported that the Nasa coalition has written to the police informing the command of its intention to hold a peaceful procession.

Lawyers of the coalition said in a statement that written letter that “Our clients intend to hold peaceful processions/ demonstrations on Friday November 10, 2017 within Nairobi County as part of its quest for electoral justice and an end to electoral impunity in Kenya,”

“You are hereby notified of the same and requested to provide security during the said procession/ demonstration to ensure criminal elements do not take advantage to harm protesters, the public or any property,” it adds.

Previous demonstrations before the re-run presidential election were characterized by violence and clashes between the protesters and the police, resulting in some deaths.

The opposition has refused to recognize President Uhuru Kenyatta as winner of the re-run poll and has urged its supporters to boycott products and services of some companies it considered to be close to the ruling Jubilee party.
