Some former Ministers and Members of Parliament in Ghana are facing a probe for reportedly receiving double salaries while serving under the previous government.

The police in the West African nation have been questioning these officials since the news broke last month.

The head of the investigation, Maame Yaa Tiwaa Addo-Danquah told the state media, Daily Graphic that many of the officials suspected of taking double salaries are to assist the police with information.

The said officials had been serving as MPs and ministers at the same time during the previous regime and are believed to have been paid for both roles.

One of the former appointees, Comfort Doyoe Cudjoe, told Citi FM in Acra that “It is never true and cannot be true. Whoever has been a minister before, you have something from the executive to collect and you have something as a member of parliament”.

“I am not a thief, I worked for the state and the state gave me what I deserve. They had good people; accountants and auditors there. If I owe the state, they will write first to me to inform us that we owe them. They shouldn’t target us,” she was further quoted as saying.

The former government appointees who belong to the opposition party the National Democratic Congress have described the current probe as a witch-hunt and an attempt to humiliate them.

The President of Ghana, Nana Akufo Addo has set up a special prosecutor for corruption hoping to rid the country of rising canker.

Ghana is also struggling to mobilize enough resources to execute major projects and has recently launched a revenue mobilization effort to raise enough money.
