Kenya: 7 killed by floods , 11 missing

Floods in parts of Kenya have killed seven people with eleven others reported to have gone missing, according to local media.

The Daily Nation reported that the floods especially in Ongata Rongai, a town south of Nairobi, the country’s capital swept away five persons who were crossing a bridge on Thursday.

Two others who died from the floods were killed in their house in another town called Kiserian.

Heavy rains on Thursday in parts of Kenya wreaked havoc making commuting difficult for many residents and motorists.

Government officials are said to be deploying rescuers to help locate those missing.

Nairobi which is one of the biggest commercial hub in East and Central Africa is reported to be using drainage and sewer lines constructed during the British colonial era in the 1950s and early 1960s.

The Kenyan capital is home to over 4 million people and is both the seat of government of Kenya and the city county headquarters.
