Former Zimbabwean President, Robert Mugabe has been flown to Singapore for treatment over ill-health.

The 94 year old’s health is reported to be “suddenly” deteriorating requiring urgent treatment.

Local media NewsDay reports that a highly placed source confirmed that the former leader is in Singapore for medical check-ups.

What is wrong with Mugabe?

“He (Mugabe) slipped out of the country two weeks ago after his blood pressure suddenly rose to dangerous levels” the source told NewsDay.

“He also had trouble with his eye which previously has been diagnosed with a cataract,” the source added.

Shortly after exiting power last year Robert Mugabe travelled to Singapore for a medical check-up. He has made several of such trips in the past.

Exit from power

He exited power after a brief military takeover ushering in his former deputy, Emmerson Mnangagwa as President.

Former President Robert Mugabe had been a major political figure in his country since leading it to independence in 1980.

Mugabe ruled Zimbabwe for 37 years before his exit.

Zimbabwe’s parliament recently “recused” him from its ongoing probe into missing state funds.

He was to be questioned by lawmakers over his 2016 claim that the country lost $15 billion in income from diamonds.
