Police in Zimbabwe on Friday said over 40 people were killed when a bus they were traveling in caught fire.

The horrific accident happened in Gwanda district, south of Harare, Zimbabwe’s capital on Thursday night.

The bus was reportedly traveling to South Africa when the accident occurred.

Local media reports that at least 20 more people sustained injuries, some with severe burns.

The Herald in Zimbabwe reports that “It is suspected a gas tank belonging to one of the passengers caused the inferno in the bus.”
