Officials in Sudan say at least seven local government officials have been killed in a helicopter crash.

The crash occurred in Sudan’s eastern al-Qadarif state on Sunday, according to the state news agency SUNA.

Local media reports that the al-Qadarif state governor was among those killed in the crash.

The local officials were reportedly on a security tour of the province before the disaster.

There have been no immediate details about the cause of the crash.

In October this year eight people sustained injuries when two planes collided on the runway at the airport in the capital, Khartoum.

Two pilots were also killed in September when a military jet crashed near Omdurman, Khartoum’s twin city.
