South Africans are outraged at a video that has gone viral showing a nursery school teacher abusing toddlers.

The video captured the said teacher hitting school children and forcing them to undertake a cleaning exercise.

The incident took place at a creche in Carletonville, Gauteng over a year ago.

The 40-year-old woman whose name hasn’t been made public yet is seen in one of the videos repeatedly hitting a male toddler on the head.

She then tossed the child around before stepping on his head.

The teacher was arrested on March 26, 2019 and charged with the assault of a minor, according to police officials.

She is currently facing prosecution for her alleged crime and will next appear at Oberholzer Magistrates Court on May 7.

News24 reported that the motive for the creche teacher’s action is still unknown.

According to Eye Witness News, the principal of the school where the incident took place claims the videos that went viral were captured a year ago.

A relative of one of the children abused in the video also confirmed that the incident was recorded two years ago.

She wrote on Twitter on Thursday that “The child in the video is actually my niece, the video was taken 2 years ago and we only found out today”.

There are reports of parents fetching their kids from the nursery after the video went viral on Wednesday.
